Preharvest 1-methylcyclopropene treatment enhances ‘stress-associated watercore’ dissipation in ‘Jonagold’ apples

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect preharvest application 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on postharvest dissipation stress watercore incidence and severity rating over 30 d at 20 °C. ‘Jonagold’ trees were untreated or sprayed with 1-MCP one week before harvest. Harvest indices quality factors °C, assessed days 2, 5, 9,15, 20, 30. Fruit treated treatment had lower internal ethylene concentrations starch pattern (higher concentration) harvest compared fruit, but no effects flesh firmness, soluble solids concentration, titratable acidity, rating, sugars detected. At however, fruit a faster decrease water core than delayed development senescent breakdown skin shriveling. Sorbitol in glucose, fructose, sucrose, not consistent. More rapid loss stress-associated consistent sorbitol cortical tissues.
